Workdays per year calculator
Count weekdays minus public holidays in a calendar year for an Australian state or territory.
What the result means
A workday here is Monday–Friday that is not a public holiday in the selected jurisdiction. It is not rostered days, RDOs or school terms.
How it is calculated
Count dates from 1 January to 31 December that are weekdays and not in the holiday set
- Jurisdiction: State or territory whose holiday list is applied.
The same engine as the business-days calculator, applied to a full calendar year.
Assumptions
- Estimates only — not tax, legal, credit or financial advice. Check the official source or your contract before relying on a figure.
- Weekends never count.
- Local council holidays may be missing.
Worked example
2026 in NSW
A planning year.
- Weekdays
- About 261, minus NSW public holidays that fall Mon–Fri
Use this for capacity planning, not for a specific employee’s roster.
Holiday lists are simplified
Some holidays are local (for example certain agricultural shows). This site uses a national-plus-state set. Always confirm with the Fair Work ombudsman or your state gazette.
Questions
Does annual leave reduce this number?
No. This is the weekday/holiday calendar, not an attendance record.
